The City of Beacon Commission on Human Relations was created to serve the residents and businesses located within the City of Beacon.
The Commission’s primary objectives are:
- To create and foster a community climate
in which better understanding and relation-
ships among various racial, religious and
ethnic groups can easily and naturally take
place.
- To recommend and conduct educational
programs and trainings that will increase
understanding and assist the residents of
Beacon in securing the rights which are
theirs by virtue of residing in America
and New York State.
- To inquire into incidents of tension and
conflicts among or between various racial,
religious, and nationality groups.
- To enlist the cooperation and participation
of the various racial, religious and
nationality groups, community, industry
and labor organizations, media or mass
communication, fraternal and benevolent
associations, and other groups in an
educational campaign devoted to fostering
mutual esteem, justice, and equity and
opening new opportunities into all phases
of community life, thereby enhancing
the quality of life for all individuals who
reside in the City of Beacon.
- To encourage and stimulate agencies
under the jurisdiction of Beacon City
Government to take such action as that
fulfill the purposes of the Commission.
- To receive complaints of alleged discrimi-
nation; seek a just solution locally; and to
seek active assistance of the Division of
Human Rights of the State of New York
and the Dutchess County Human Rights
Commission in the solution of complaints
that fall within their jurisdiction.
